Review: Creating Products That Sell by Dave Navarro
Overview
Creating Products That Sell is a self-study workshop of pdfs from Dave Navarro, part of his “More Buyers Every Month” set of resources.
The price
$197. Yes, that’s high, but there’s a lot of material (and expertise) here.
You also get the option to add in Dave’s other workshop, Building a Responsive List, for an extra $100 – it normally sells for $197.
What’s included
Five modules – essentially pdf workbooks packed with information and exercises for you to try. You access these through a login and simple, attractive interface (see screenshot above for a teeny bit of it), and you can download them to your computer if you want to. Dave covers:
- Module One: Creating Your Ideal Product Roadmap
- Module Two: Rapid Idea Generation (Without The Stress)
- Module Three: High-Quality Product Creation, Step By Step
- Module Four: Boosting Your Sales (And Reducing Your Refunds)
- Module Five: Getting Money In Your Pocket This Week
The course takes you step-by-step through the initial brainstorming stage (even if you have no idea what you could create a product about) through creation and then selling.
Within each module there are three or more “training packs”. In most cases, you’ll want to just work through these in order, but sometimes it’s handy to be able to pick and choose the bits you need.
Dave also throws in a bonus:
- Sales page template (for me, this alone is worth a chunk of cash; I spent ages putting together my last sales page by manually writing the HTML and CSS)
Good stuff
Having bought quite a few products from Dave in the past, I had high hopes for this; he certainly seems to be pretty good at creating products that sell!
Really Thorough Approach
When I bought Creating Products That Sell and logged in, I was impressed how much there was – and how thoroughly Dave covered different topics. I thought this might be too beginner-focused, but Dave goes into plenty of detail without making the course overwhelming.
I was particularly interested in the range of different types of products he covers: I know my way around an ebook, but his advice on audio, video, teleseminar and membership content was all pretty new to me, and made these areas seem much more manageable.
Energising, Dynamic Style
One of the reasons that I like Dave’s stuff is because of the energy which he pours into it. I’ve heard others say similar things, so it’s not just me! Dave manages to be encouraging and realistic simultaneously. He doesn’t make silly promises that you can make loads of money without doing any work, but he does focus on getting you to engage with the material and come up with your own ideas.
Concrete, Actionable Advice
Even in areas where I thought I knew what I was doing, like creating pdfs, I picked up some very handy and specific tips.
Dave doesn’t shy away from the technical and practical here; this isn’t theoretical or abstract content at all, it’s a very action-focused process to help you from initial ideas right through to launching and selling your product.
Bad stuff
I was actually incredibly pleased with Creating Products That Sell – I bought it with mixed feelings, because I wasn’t sure whether I really needed it, but I got a huge amount from it. I’ve only got a couple of nagging issues
The Price
For me, $197 is a lot of cash – and I imagine it’s the same for you. I managed to get hold of Creating Products That Sell during an advance sale, which made it $97, but that still needed some careful thought.
Given that this is really an entry-level course, aimed at folks who may well not have sold any products themselves yet, I thought the price was a little on the high side.
Having said that, there was a huge amount of valuable content to dig into and Dave has clearly put a lot of work into this. It would cost considerably more to attend a seminar or live course which covered similar material, and to hire Dave as a coach to go through all of this would cost thousands. In that light, the price looks quite reasonable!
Beginner-to-Intermediate Content
In fairness, I knew when I bought this that it was aimed at folks who were beginners or not long established in selling information products. If Dave was going to produce follow-up or additional material (and I believe he is doing so), I’d like to see some content aimed at taking things to the next level.
For instance, I’m working with a designer for my next ebook, rather than doing everything myself like I did with my earliest products, so I’d have liked some tips on how to find a designer, what information to provide them with, what to expect from them, and so on.
Verdict
If you’re thinking about producing information products (ebooks, teleseminars, membership sites, instruction videos and so on), this is a great resource. Yes, $197 definitely isn’t cheap – but if it helps you sell an extra five or ten copies of your own product, you’ll more than make your money back.
Whether you’re still at the ideas stage or whether you’ve already got several ebooks out there for sale, you’ll pick up some extremely valuable advice here. Go and have a look at Dave’s sales page (which will give you a great idea of what’s included, and of Dave’s style).
Dave offers a generous 60 day money-back guarantee, so you buy this and feel it’s not quite what you needed right now, you can get a refund.
Note: I’m a proud affiliate for this one; Dave is one of my online heroes and I love his work.

Nice review, Ali. I have to agree with all of your points. In my opinion, Dave finds the best balance between motivational and actionable content out there. He doesn’t just get you started on the path and then say, “Well, good luck with that! Hope you can figure it out.” I’ve always been impressed with the level of detail and clarity in his products.
Like you, I agree that the price is pretty high, but I’ve also learned to think of the money vs time tradeoff. There have been so many times in the past that I’ve spent 20 hours trying to figure out something that I could have spent $50 or $100 on and been done with in minutes. The same is true about Dave’s products- sure, they cost a decent amount up front, but if you make back what you spent 10x over, or 10x faster, it’s totally worth it.
Thanks, Beau! And yep, I really like Dave’s balance. He’s encouraging but also extremely down to earth about the exact steps to take, and he makes it seem much more manageable.
I’m with you on the money vs time trade-off. I’m digging deep into Creating Products That Sell right now (I’ve got an ebook draft that I’m smartening up), and it’s really helping. I’ll try to do a case study or similar a bit further down the line.
Ali, I see from your newsletter that you’re at your parents’ place, so don’t know if you’ll get this comment – I signed up to Dave Navarro’s email list yesterday and received details of Creating Products that Sell today – along with the extra offer deal which runs out tonight. I hate being railroaded! As you say, it’s a lot of money! I was delighted to see that you were reviewing it. I’m toying with the idea of creating ebooks and podcasts or suchlike to expand what I’m doing with fictionfire – when I looked through Dave’s pitch it certainly seemed pretty impressive. What’s your opinion of its relevance to me? I certainly need help and advice with the more technical aspects of ebook production – the content I can come up with – it’s getting it out there that matters! Hope you see this and can reply tonight!
Good questions. You’ve unfortunately come in right at the end of Dave’s promotion!
I’ve found Creating Products That Sell really useful (I’m planning on doing a case study about my experiences with it) — it’s very beginner-friendly but goes into detail on quite a lot of things. I agree it’s pretty pricy. I think it *is* relevant to you; I found the stuff on the actual creation of pdfs and audio files particularly helpful.
As towhether it’s worth the money, though … I’m going to be totally honest here and say I don’t think you *need* it at the moment. I went for just the Creating Products That Sell, rather than the other workshops too. And it’s a fair bit to invest in business when you’re at the starting out stage.
To be honest, you can probably get your first ebook / podcasts done just by making good use of Dave’s free materials.
Having said that, it’s probably my favourite of Dave’s products so far, and I’ve been using it to help with my next ebook (you’re on the newsletter, you’ll hear about that next week …
)
So your call, really! It’s useful, yes, but it’s certainly not going to be the end of the world if you *don’t* buy it. My decision was basically based on the assumption that if I sold an extra X ebooks at Y price, I’d cover my costs.
