About

About Ali

I’m Ali Hale. Like you, I can’t be easily summed up with a label. I play a number of roles: freelance writer, post-graduate student, incongruously young Church “Elder”, occasional babysitter, unpublished novelist, girlfriend, daughter…

I believe we’re all here to live the best life we can. One of my big “things” (call it my mission or goal if you want) is helping people make the most of their potential. That includes working on myself: shedding bad habits, becoming more bold and courageous, resisting laziness, and pushing myself beyond my cozy comfort zone.

You might have spotted me on other blogs like Dumb Little Man, Pick the Brain, The Change Blog, EcoSimply, Diet Blog or You On A Diet – I’m a regular, paid blogger (what I call a staff blogger) for all of these.

What’s Aliventures about?

Aliventures is where I wrestle with the really big questions and – hopefully – where I help you to find answers. I’m interested in getting more from life, and helping you to do the same. I’m finding out why we have great intentions but don’t act on them, why we get motivated and fired up for new projects only to abandon them days later, why we struggle to change even when we really want to.

Aliventures is not a life-hackery, productivity type blog. You won’t find the “Top ten ways to fix your life in five minutes” here. (Unless I decide to write that one as a parody…) My posts tend to be long, in depth, and packed with quotes and examples. If, like me, you want to dig deep into the meaty questions of life, then stick around.

If there’s a particular question, topic or problem you want me to tackle here on Aliventures, just let me know. (Email ali@aliventures.com or use the Contact form.)

Why “Aliventures”?

I get excited about a lot of projects, ideas, mini-business plans … I like the collective term ventures for these. Plus, “Aliventures” makes me think of “adventures”: exciting, cool, fun and life-changing things. It also incorporates the word “alive”, and when I left my tech support day job, I desperately needed that feeling of vibrancy instead of zombification.

Want me to write for you?

If you want me to write for your blog, drop me a line (ali@aliventures.com). I warn you, I’m taking on very few new jobs at the moment.

I’m always delighted to consider guest post requests – where I write a unique and free post just for you, in return for a link back to Aliventures. I can’t offer more than one guest post per month, max, at present.

Feel free to check out my articles on EzineArticles – you can republish these on your blog or newsletter. (Just make sure you check the EzineArticles Terms of Service for publishers.)

Ali,
I just discovered your blog today through the wonderful article you published on ProBlogger, about “every blogger starts from zero.” Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Ali,
I am just a huge fan of your writing and articles. I am a subscriber to Dumb Little Man and my most favourite mails are the ones which are authored by you.
I thought I would know more about the ‘person’ you are from your site but its pretty much business-like too! ;)
Anyways, keep up the good work. You are touching a lot of lives! :)

Thanks Raza! I’m really glad you’re enjoying my DLM articles. Hopefully if you stick around a little on Aliventures, you’ll get to know more about me as a person too. :-)

Chase Brumfield December 5, 2009 at 6:44 pm

Ali,

Just read your article on DLM. Nice work and very true comments on silence.

Quick question… was the community you spoke of a monastary in Kentucky….

Thanks,
Chase Brumfield

Ali December 6, 2009 at 5:17 pm

Cheers Chase, glad you enjoyed the piece! The place I went to was a community run by Catholic sisters in Kent in the UK: http://www.sisters-of-st-andrew.com/

Ok just curious because I visited the monastary of Gethsemane in Kentucky this past summer for a week of silence with some Benedictine monks… it literally changed my life. I highly reccomend it. Thanks for the great posts.
